Behind the Stack: Staff Favorites & Stacking Tips

Working so closely with the jewelry, it’s only natural that we begin building stacks of our own. What allows us to do our jobs so thoughtfully is that we genuinely fall in love with Satomi’s designs and her belief that jewelry, once worn, becomes part of your body.

Every member of our team owns at least one SKJ piece, and many of us wear several, layered and lived in over the years.

We invited the team to share what they’re loving right now, how they approach stacking, and what it feels like to wear SKJ every day.

What We’re Loving Right Now

Emily, our Sales and Studio Assistant, shared that she couldn't stop staring at her One-of-a-Kind Rainbow Moonstone cabochon ring

I can't stop staring at it as it flashes blue and orange in different lights, and it truly looks like a mystical crystal ball at times. A piece that I do not own (yet) that I love is the Small Ruby Terra Eternity Band because it adds such a lovely pop of color and the structure is perfectly imperfect.” - Emily.

Pam, our E-commerce and Social Media assistant, shared that the Open Circle Diamond Ring has become one of her favorites for its bold, sculptural shape. Designed exclusively in white gold, it reflects Satomi’s sensitivity to metal color — how the different hues of each metal can change the entire personality of a piece.

"It's so fun and bold! I've also been growing to love white gold, it blends in well with my stack when I mix silver and gold." - Pam

For Brittany, our Operations Manager, the Classic White Diamond Triple Hexagon Ring carries personal meaning. She purchased it as a replacement for her original engagement ring, which she still owns and loves, after finding that its sharp prongs were catching on her clothes.

My Triple Hexagon Ring is beautiful, so sparkly, and never catches on anything. It feels like a special upgrade to my original ring and I love wearing it every day.” - Brittany

Naoko, our Sales Assistant, who has been at SKJ for 9 years shared that she loved to layer the Rippling Necklace and Rippling Bracelet—they have become her everyday staples. The two chains complement one another naturally, easy to style and effortless to live in.

Tanner, our Sales Assistant, is consistently drawn to the Rainbow Moonstone Cosmos Earrings as she describes them as “effortlessly glamorous.”

How We Approach Stacking

Stacking is instinctive. Some of us embrace asymmetry like pairing opposing structures or mixing metals without hesitation. A rose cut next to a hammered band. Contrast often brings a stack to life.

Others prioritize comfort above all else. Rings are layered based on how they feel, not just how they look.

For some, more is more. A chunky, eye-catching stack that builds presence across the hand. For others, balance is key, placing solid rings between stone rings to create spacing and allow each stone to breathe.

Many of us size rings intentionally so they can move between fingers. A stack isn’t fixed; it can evolve throughout the day as our fingers fluctuate.

Rings shift, rotate, and settle into the rhythm of your hands. SKJ rings are designed with this movement in mind and are made to be stacked in endless combinations.

Some Styling Tips From Us

You don't need to start from scratch:

Stacking has always been central to Satomi’s philosophy. She always reminds clients who are new to stacking that they don't have to start from scratch.

"If they’re already wearing a wedding ring, I suggest simply adding another band to it. Just layering a delicate gold ring over a plain platinum band can completely transform the impression. Suddenly, it brings a sense of glamour, individuality, and a more personal expression. That’s the beauty of layering — 1 + 1 doesn’t always equal 2. Sometimes, 1 + 1 becomes 3… or even 4." - Satomi

Start with a piece you love, something classic or personal, and build from there.

Vary textures and widths so the stack feels dimensional. Placing a solid band between stone rings can create breathing room and highlight each stone more intentionally.

Don’t be afraid to mix metals.

Yellow gold and silver can coexist beautifully, especially when balanced with repetition elsewhere in your stack.

Think about flexibility.

Sizing rings so they can move between fingers allows your stack to evolve throughout the day. And if comfort is a priority, use bands to secure stone rings in place, especially if your fingers change with temperature.

Make it uniquely yours.

Most importantly, let the stack feel like you. Whether your instinct is minimal or bold, structured or imperfect, styling should feel intuitive.

Wearing SKJ Every Day

When we asked what we love most about wearing SKJ daily, the answer that came up again and again was comfort.

SKJ pieces are delicate, yet durable. They layer easily with existing jewelry, blending seamlessly into personal style while still standing on their own.

Over time, our jewelry becomes more than an accessory. It becomes a marker of memory.

Working at Satomi Kawakita Jewelry allows us to see each piece from the very beginning, when the stones are still loose and waiting to be set, to the moment it becomes part of someone’s everyday life.

The most special part is that we experience that journey ourselves. We build our stacks slowly, wear them daily, and let them become part of us. That is what makes them uniquely ours.
